Top 7 Decorating Ideas To Get Your Home Ready For Christmas
I know, I know. It’s not quite December, and that means for some it’s too early to decorate for Christmas, but we can start planning right?
It’s been getting colder every day, and at VictoriaHomes.com we’ve been wearing mittens and sipping on hot chocolate for weeks now, and it’s got us feeling festive! We can’t wait to pick up a Christmas tree and deck our house out in Christmas lights, but for now here’s a little inspiration to get your home ready for the holidays.
1. Get in the Christmas Spirit with Some Fragrant Greenery
There’s nothing that feels quite like bringing a Christmas tree home for the family, and a big part of that is the smell! Put those extra branches to good use by placing them in vases, wreaths, around your kitchen, and on the mantle for natural decor that looks and smells like the holidays.
2. Ornaments Everywhere
Christmas ornaments seem to multiply every year, and we’ve all had decorations we didn’t know what to do with. Try using them as decorations of their own by placing them in glass vases, bowls, jars, or wherever you think a little colour would help!
3. Get Inspired by Nature
Winter has its own natural beauty. The trees might have lost their Spring leaves, but fresh snow, evergreen trees, pinecones, and holly have a beauty all of their own! Tap into the beauty of Winter by using these natural decorations in creative ways, as accents on gifts or as decorations around the house.
4. Use Pictures Instead of Nametags on Gifts
This creative idea offers a bit of a twist on labeling Christmas presents by personalizing them with photos instead of name tags. Pick your favourite photo of the year, or go retro with black and white or favourite childhood photos.
5. Get Crafty With the Kids
Making Christmas decorations with the kids is an annual tradition around here. Decorating your house with children might not be easy with all age groups, but sitting down for a Christmas craft can be a fun way to spend an afternoon indoors!
6. Decorate Your Home With Presents!
Instead of placing them all under the tree, try placing your presents around the house as decorations! Create a feeling of excitement and anticipation by placing presents in the rooms of your house, and let your kids (and spouse) wander around to find out where theirs is. It’s different and fun, and can be a great way to kick off the holiday season. If you love having presents under the tree, consider placing empty wrapped boxes around the house instead for the same look.
7. Get Creative With Your Colours!
We love the classic Christmas colours, really. Red, green, gold, and silver, are almost synonymous with Christmas, but that shouldn’t prevent you from getting creative. Blue, purple, black, and white are just a few colour options we’ve seen popping up this year, but you’re only limited by your creativity!
And there you have it! These are just a few of our favourite ways to decorate for the holidays.
