History of the Mayfair Shopping Centre
Mayfair Shopping Centre is owned and managed by Ivanhoé Cambridge, the pre-eminent Canadian-based global property owner, manager, developer and investor, based also in North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia. Their focus on high-quality shopping centers in urban areas. In October 1963, Mayfair Shopping Centre initially opened as an outdoor strip mall with 27 stores, constructed the grounds of a former brickyard in the Maywood district. It became the know department store in the Maywood district. In 1974, the Mayfair went through renovations and enclosed, and from 1984-1990 the mall went through significant expansion, which included addition of a food court and more retail space. On August 23, 2016, Mayfair Shopping Centre announced it will undergo a $72-million expansion replacing its parking lots along Douglas Street with 100,000 square feet of new retail space, and some other improvements and interior updates.
